An island resort on Ari
Kuramathi sits on one of the largest resort islands in the Maldives, a 1.8 km strip in the Ari Atoll with a natural sandbank stretching roughly another kilometre. With 360 villas across beach and overwater categories, the scale here is genuinely unusual for the Maldives — there are 12 restaurants, 7 bars, a PADI dive centre, and a kids club, all without leaving the island. The resort is rebranding as Niva Kuramathi Maldives. It holds a 4.8/5 Google rating across more than 2,400 reviews, with service and the overall property condition drawing the strongest praise.
The honest verdict
A large, well-equipped resort island where the sheer variety of dining, activities, and room types means most guests can shape the stay to suit them.

What a stay costs
Indicative room-only estimate from the lowest nightly rate — excludes airport transfers, taxes and seasonal price changes. Many Maldives properties also require a minimum stay. Check live rates for your dates.
The island and its sandbank
At 1.8 km long with a natural sandbank extending further, Kuramathi is physically one of the larger resort islands in the Maldives. The house reef runs along the island and is accessible directly for snorkelling. An Eco Centre is also on-site.
Twelve restaurants, one island
The dining range is wide. Haruge, Malaafaiy, and Farivalhu handle international buffets. Siam Garden covers Thai, Tandoor Mahal Indian, Palm does Mediterranean and pizza. The Reef and Kobe are both built over the lagoon — The Reef for seafood, Kobe for teppanyaki.
Overwater and pool villa categories
Overwater options run from the 115 m² Deluxe Water Villa up to the 142 m² Water Villa with Pool and the Thundi Water Villa with Pool, both with private pools over the lagoon. Beach-side pool options include the Pool Villa at 165 m².
Dining plans and fine dining
All Inclusive Select and Dine Around plans both include à la carte access across the restaurants alongside premium beverages. La Belle Vie handles French fine dining; Destination Dining offers private dining experiences arranged on request.
Rasdhoo Divers and water sports
Rasdhoo Divers is the resident PADI-certified dive centre. Beyond diving, the resort runs windsurfing, canoeing, and snorkelling. The combination of a house reef and an on-site dive centre makes Kuramathi a practical base for underwater activity.
Bageecha Kids Club and family facilities
The Bageecha Kids Club runs daily from 08:30 to 18:30. The Two-Bedroom Beach House sleeps up to six, making it the most practical room category for families travelling with children.
